Why We Love This

Basilius Besler was responsible for creating the most celebrated florilegium ever published, The Hortus Eystettensis is a pictorial record of all of the plants that were grown in the gardens of the Prince Bishop of Eichstatt which was created in Germany in the early 1600's. It was the very first time that flowers had been grown for pleasure rather than for medicinal purposes. These fine art giclée reproductions are of hand colored antiques from the William Stafford archives. Our Italian gesso and wood frames are hand finished by craftsmen using traditional 17th century Florentine techniques. This frame is hand finished and distressed in gold.
