Willie Christie was born in 1948. Having left Eton at aged 17, he took a varied route - including a spell in Australia - to his career as a photographer. His portfolio includes award winning advertising campaigns (L'Oreal and Yves St Laurent), fashion and portrait work for international icons (Cary Grant, Grace Jones and Joanna Lumley) and Rock 'n' Roll album covers and portraits (Rolling Stones and David Bowie).

The gesso and wood frame is hand-finished by craftsmen using 17th century Florentine techniques. It is hand-painted in black.

When European designers need the perfect black-and-white photograph, they turn to the archives of the William Stafford Gallery. Based in London, the gallery sources evocative, memorable images from large and small collections across the globe. William Stafford is known for unearthing remarkable undiscovered works by the most important photographers. The combination of the finest paper and ink on each work guarantees perfect clarity for a minimum of 50 years.
