Known in Britain as a Knole sofa or settee, this style of seating was designed in the 17th century as a type of throne for royals visiting the Knole estate in England. In addition to a fairly high seat back (to ward off drafts and provide privacy), it featured arms that could be lowered, turning the sofa into a bed. This linen-upholstered version is 89.5 inches wide with the arms up and 113 inches wide with the arms lowered. Nailhead trim accentuates its classic lines.
