As described by Vintage Print Gallery

1850s hand-colored engraving by Alcide D'Orbigny (1802-1857). D'Orbigny was a French naturalist and disciple of Cuvier. D'Orbigny visited South America from 1826 to 1833 and returned with a collection of more than 10,000 specimens. He described part of his findings in La Relation du Voyage dans l'Amérique Méridionale. Charles Darwin called this book one of the great monuments of science in the 19th century.
