As described by
A wonderful mid-19th-century work on insect life by Acheta Domestica (or 'House
Cricket', a pseudonym for L.M. Budgen) containing extensive anthropomorphic woodcut vignettes, both 'pleasing and grotesque' (according to the Henry B. Humphrey catalogue of 1871). Many of the illustrations are delicately hand-colored, bringing life and a quaint playfulness to text. A charming set, printed in 1849 and bound in three quarter morocco over marbled boards, including all three series in three volumes.
