Called "Budai" in Chinese and "Hotei" in Japanese,
the Laughing Buddha is known as the god of contentment and happiness. Rubbing his belly just might bring prosperity, good luck, and wealth.
This statue depicts Buddha in meditation. The tight-knit
spirals adorning Buddha's head represent a group of snails that, legend has it, kept his head cool as he sat deeply meditating in the afternoon heat.
