The most sophisticated type of ikat to produce, velvet ikat is woven through a double-warp process in which the silk threads are meticulously coiled and looped by hand to create a plush velvety pile; given the intricacy of the technique, velvet ikat is relatively rare. This ikat fabric was made in Uzbekistan; the pillow was sewn by hand in Turkey. The silk-blend velvet exhibits beautiful irregularities of surface and loosely ordered geometry.
