The ancient craft of metal-engraving continues to be vibrant throughout present-day Uzbekistan. These trays, called lyagan, are made especially for us by a copper master in Tashkent. Traditionally given as wedding presents to honor the bride and groom, the intricate carvings on these pieces depict ancient Islamic designs. The overall message bestows wealth and prosperity upon the recipients, while the center motif here represents tumar, the amulet believed to provide protection from the evil eye.

With a network of artisans around the world, L’Aviva Home creates globally inspired home accents that resonate with the spirit of time-honored creative traditions. From remote Bolivian villages to weathered workshops in Central Asia, these collaborations produce a bold collection of pieces that unveil their stories in texture and pattern. “The things we surround ourselves with should possess a soul and a history,” says founder Laura Aviva, a former creative director for Travel + Leisure. “They should inspire us to connect to the world.”
