Colonial Arts, James Eddy
"18th-century Spanish Colonial writing desk from Columbia with finely crafted bone and mother-of-pearl inlay, hand-etched sgraffito and original hand-forged iron hinges. The interior with checkerboard drop front and ten compartments, each with original 18th-century drawer pulls, the facade overlaid in mother-of-pearl with hand-etched cityscapes, cathedrals, geometric patterns and foliate motifs. The interior with hand-carved and giltwood columns, circa 1750."
After years of travel, stints in architectural design, and a decade of compulsive collecting, James Eddy founded Colonial Arts as a cyber-enterprise in 1998. Housed today in a historic brick-and-timber building in the San Francisco Design Center, the gallery focuses on high-quality Spanish Colonial and folk art from Spain and the Americas, sensational Continental furniture, tribal art, period silver, textiles, jewelry, and an impressive assortment of reference materials.
