A striking pair of vintage prints of original copperplate engravings, containing 55 hand-colored marine flags, some decorated with coats of arms. Drawn by Goussier, they were then engraved by Benard, who put together the Encyclopédie which contained 72,000 articles written by more than 140 contributors. The Encyclopédie was a massive reference work for the arts and sciences and served to propagate Enlightened ideas.
