Baklane received classical training in the arts, exhibiting in European cities before emigrating to Canada in 2002. The artist is strongly influenced by architecture, painting in a structured style that combines abstraction with realism. In Baklane's own words, "Coming from the country where summers are short and often rainy, I was always inspired by bright sunlight of southern countries--Italy, Spain, Mexico, and states like California and Florida. I try to capture that bright light." The artist's fascinating with surfing and skateboarding culture comes through in these dynamically beautiful works.
