Why We Love This

This is a print of the original work, beautifully framed with white lacquered wood. The artist Ieva Baklane was born in Riga, Latvia in an artist's family. Baklane received classical training in the arts, exhibiting in European cities before emigrating to Canada in 2002. The artist is strongly influenced by architecture, painting in a structured style that combines abstraction with realism. In Baklane's own words, "Coming from the country where summers are short and often rainy, I was always inspired by bright sunlight of southern countries--Italy, Spain, Mexico, and states like California and Florida. I try to capture that bright light." The artist's fascinating with surfing and skateboarding culture comes through in these dynamically beautiful works.
