This is a print of the original work, beautifully framed with white lacquered wood. A depiction of the German Pavilion in Barcelona, an architectural milestone designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929. The actual building, constructed from precious materials such as onyx, travertine, and marble, led the artist Cécile Van Hanja to create this almost immaterial composition in various watery shades of blue and gray. Van Hanja takes direct images from the world around her as she makes her paintings. He focuses on urban spaces, photographing architecture and "anonymous" environments like office buildings, and then transforming the color, light, and atmosphere in her painting. She also frequently depicts studio space--the essential environment that she and many others need to create. Her paintings often make these spaces feel familiar, and let us think about the importance of design in our lives.

An offshoot of London’s famed Saatchi Gallery, Saatchi Online gives emerging artists a platform to show their work to a global audience. Just as important, it gives you the opportunity to discover and buy original paintings, photographs and prints by up-and-coming talents from more than 100 countries.
