Why We Love This

Oil seascape by listed California artist Albert DeRome (1885-1959). He studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute in S. F. and traveled the southwest painting with famous California artists. A serious car crash in 1931 ended his professional career. An insurance settlement forbade him from ever selling his work. In 1988 Walter Nelson Rees gathered his works and wrote his biography. Tragically they were burned in the 1990 Oakland fires, making his work rare. Displayed in a giltwood frame.
