A novel, feminine spin on a hippo. Shown in a fuchsia with a radiating design on its chest, the hippo is set against a lovely background of dripping vine-like blue lines.
This is a fine print of the original felted wool design. The image is surrounded by a one-inch white border and framed in a white wood frame.
The textile artist Maryanne Quinn puts a modern spin on American folk art with her felted wool designs. Though her pieces often have a childlike spirit, Quinn draws on bold graphics and ironic references that make them sophisticated works of art. In her designs, one can see influences of a lifetime of salty summers, Quinn’s early botanical study in watercolors, and the precise arrangements she mastered as a graphic designer. Quinn lives with her three children in Boulder, CO, and spends summers by the beach on Long Island, where she grew up.
