This is an heliogravure and is the original work as published by Verve, Paris and printed by Mourlot, Paris in 1938. Founded in 1937 by Henri Matisse’s friend E. Teriade, Verve was a lavish publication on the arts. The magazine showcased original lithographs by the leading artists of the day. This piece of fine art is in mint condition and framed to museum standards.

Henri Matisse was a virtuoso, moving from cut-outs and sculpture to painting. The principal founder of Fauvism, he used expressive color, often giving his works a rich surface design. He was also a masterful draftsman. Educated and trained in Paris, Matisse spent most of his life in the South of France.
