This Henri Matisse piece is from the very rare first issue of Verve. Founded in 1937 by Henri Matisse’s friend E. Teriade, Verve was a lavish publication on the arts. The magazine showcased original lithographs by the leading artists of the day. The print comes framed.

Henri Matisse was a virtuoso, moving from cut-outs and sculpture to painting. The principal founder of Fauvism, he used expressive color, often giving his works a rich surface design. He was also a masterful draftsman. Educated and trained in Paris, Matisse spent most of his life in the South of France.
