This lithograph was printed directly from stone lithograph plates and is plate-signed. Here, Chagall uses pastel colors to depict a vase of flowers with a bowl of berries.
Russian by birth, Marc Chagall was educated in St. Petersburg and Paris, eventually emigrating to France in 1923. His early influences were Russian expressionism and French cubism, but Chagall created a style that was unique to the 20th century. His mastery of color suffuses his paintings and prints as well as the stained glass work that he created for European cathedrals.
