Why We Love This

For All Roads, the weaving process starts on frame looms they make in their Los Angeles studio. This piece was created during the autumn season, when the Santa Ana winds blow in from the desert. The weavings in the Santa Ana collection take color inspiration from the Angeles National Forest. The Angeles Crest Highway ascends the mountains as the landscape changes from desert sand to lush green forest. Materials for this collection hint at Mid-Century Modern furniture. Clear acrylic, shiny brass and chrome sharply contrast fuzzy sheep's wool and natural raffia commonly used in basketry. Pops of colors and metallic foil add a playful touch.

About All Roads

All Roads is the design brand that Janelle Pietrzak and Robert Dougherty work under. They first worked together when she was his weekend apprentice at a vintage motorcycle repair shop in Philadelphia. It wasn’t long until they started planning their own projects together outside the garage. He is a master carpenter, experienced home builder and certified welder. She has worked in the apparel industry sourcing fabric and design apparel and accessories for the past 10 years. Together they combine wood, metal, fiber and reclaimed materials to create objects, art and custom furniture. Now based in LA, they work on projects both independently or together. For this collection, Janelle created and wove the tapestries, and Robert welded all the steel arrows and hanging rods.
