As described by Phyllis Lucas Gallery/Old Print Center

A hand-colored copperplate engraving from Germany showing a frontal view of parietaria, a species of plants native to tropical regions. Although printed in 1719, the style is reminiscent of the famous botanical prints of Basilius Besler from his masterwork "Hortus Eysttensis," first published in 1613. The elaborate background reflects the emergence of European landscape painting and the importance of herbs in culinary culture, alchemy, and medicine at that time.
