Surkhandarya oy-palyak suzani with four moons. "The most important element of the Tashkent suzani is the motif, particularly the central ornament that represented the moon or the sun. Such suzanis were used as dowry and were presented on wedding days." 19th century. Made in Tajikistan.

Ahmad Sardar and Andrew Galuppi travel a lot. From Timbuktu to Samarkand, or wherever their clients send them, they monopolize overhead bins with carry-ons full of market finds from the across the mosquito-filled globe. Their philosophy is a contemporary take on luxury in which the handmade and the artisanal play a pivotal role.
