Midcentury oil on board by George Chapman. Chapman was an English painter who was active between 1940 and 1960, known for his darker impressionist palette. His work was derived mainly from real life subjects. Known for his portraits Chapman was admitted in the Royal Society of Painters at an extremely young age. He became a symbol of English impressionism in an era when the movement was loosing its direction. Housed in the original frame. Signed lower left. Explanation on verso.
