Sasha, born Alexander Stewart in Edinburgh, moved to London early in life and became a professional photographer at the age of 14. Following World War I he established his own portrait studio with work regularly appearing in , , and . During the 1930s Sasha worked with a number of British film companies and produced stunning portraits of screen stars such as Fred Astaire and Vivien Leigh. He continued to experiment with his inventions throughout his working life.
