Why We Love This

"In ancient Japan the kitsune, or fox, was thought to represent long life and to possess supernatural powers, and to be both benevolent and a trickster. This porcelain origami brooch starts as paper and is translated into clay. It retains the subtly of every crease and fold from its paper origin. The fine porcelain is highlighted with transparent glaze and hand-painted with gold luster."

About Alyson Iwamoto

Alyson Iwamoto is a ceramic artist who goes to great lengths to bring her ideas to life by inventing new processes. She has a formal education in ceramics, so she has the ability to mix her own clay bodies and formulate glazes to attain a desired look. Ceramics are deeply rooted in Japanese culture and she feels connected to that tradition as a Sansei, third generation Japanese-American, and carries it on in her own spirit. Alyson creates fine porcelain jewelry inspired by rock gardens in Japan and the philosophy of wabi-sabi. In each piece she makes, she sees infinite possibility in a stamped-sized square of space.
