Liz Toohey-Wiese is inspired by the history of medieval tapestry weaving, in which large wall hangings decorated with images of nature were hung to insulate cold stone walls and remind viewers of the cycles of seasons and the coming of spring. She is interested in the possibilities of texture, images, and symbols, and the comforting presence of textiles. Patterns in her work are created intuitively, exploring geometric forms and pictorial images, and fed equally by her interests in craft and fine arts. Her wall hangings blend 2D images and soft sculpture, and are sure to be the centerpiece of any room they are hung in. Liz is currently undertaking her Masters of Fine Arts and working from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
