Why We Love This

Antique handmade blanket trunk or storage coffer with shapely ogee bracket feet, molding trim, and dovetail construction dating to just before the Civil War. Each side of the box is a from a single heart pine board. Hand-wrought iron strap hinges under lid. Retains original lock mechanism, no key. Very sturdy piece, though lid shows signs of an old repair. Likely Southern in origin, found in Virginia. Small amount of top edge molding is missing at corner.
