Inspired by the natural world around her, Ann Keane creates works characterized by expressive color, dynamic energy, and inventive compositions, often applying paint with a palette knife to create a feeling of movement. As a member of an “en plein air” painting group based in Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, Keane captures the beauty of the Lowcountry. For Keane, however, the landscape is a launching point for subjectivity; the blueprint of the landscape is secondary to the placement of blocks of color. “It could begin as a forest and become a beach scene,” says Keane of her creative process. A prolific artist, Keane works on several paintings at a time in her studio in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
