Why We Love This

The classic candy cane version of Thonet's great bentwood chairs that revolutionized cafe seating in the 1850s. This example displays all the hallmarks of an early and original bentwood piece, with graceful curves inspired by the Rococo Revival-style hugely popular in the Victorian era. This wood is newly stained a dark walnut and clad in new linen by Kravet with a Japonaise-style print also a decorative hallmark of the late Victorian period. Seat, 19"H.

About Christa Pirl Furniture

Christa Pirl Furniture hand-selects and restores well-constructed, unique antique and vintage seating pieces. Interior designer and antiques expert Christa respects the history of each piece, but is not bound by the past. Her restorations take into account a chair's individual story and journey, and reorient the piece for modern living and a modern sense of style. Christa lives to bring exceedingly individual and highly crafted pieces into everyday spaces, and to restore the art of lounging.
