Why We Love This

This fashion photograph by Frances McLaughlin-Gill appeared in the April 1960 issue of "Glamour" magazine. Born in 1919, McLaughlin-Gill studied at the Pratt Institute during the Depression before beginning a successful career in photography. She worked as a staff photographer at Condé Nast Publications from 1944 to 1955 and went on to produce television commercials between 1964 and 1973. McLaughlin-Gill began working with "Vogue" in the 1940s, becoming the first woman to work under contract with the magazine.
