Why We Love This

Tselane by J. Louw van Wijk, published by Houghton Mifflin Company, 1961. Deckled edges, 211 pages. Originally printed in South Africa. First American printing. While a pregnant Tselane's husband is away working, she is warned that she has been chosen to be the victim of a ritual murder so a chief's childless wife can be "cured." Tselane flees the village and sets out to find her husband in the world beyond the mountains.
