Willie Christie was born in 1948. Having left Eton at aged 17, he took a varied route--including a spell in Australia--to his career as a photographer. His portfolio includes award winning advertising campaigns (L'Oreal and Yves St. Laurent), fashion and portrait work for international icons (Cary Grant, Grace Jones, and Joanna Lumley) and Rock 'n' Roll album covers and portraits (The Rolling Stones and David Bowie). The gesso-and-wood frame is hand-finished by craftsmen using 17th-century Florentine techniques. It is hand-painted in black.
