Why We Love This

For this project, Susan Middleton and David Liittschwager gained unprecedented access to photograph on and around the protected Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, which are otherwise off-limits to people. Known as the "rainforests of the sea," these islands are a remarkable ecosystem that supports a vast array of interdependent native plants and animals that have evolved in this habitat for millions of years, many existing nowhere else on the planet.
