Set of eight Wedgwood transferware plates with an image of the Van Cortlandt House. Made in England. Inscribed: "The third house on the property, was built in 1748 by Jacobus Van Cortlandt, on land bought from the Philipse manor. It was originally part of the patronship of Adrian Van Der Donck. To whom it was confirmed by Governor Kieft, in 1646, after he had purchased it from the Indians." Made by Josiah Wedgwood Sons, Limited expressly for the Colonial Dames of the State of New York, 1916.
