Why We Love This

This photograph by Edward Steichen appeared in the January 1932 issue of "Vanity Fair." An archival giclée reproduction, this work comes beautifully matted and set in a white Italian wood frame.
Edward Steichen was among the world's best-known and highest-paid photographers in the 1920s and ’30s. From 1923 to 1938, Steichen worked as a photographer for "Vogue", "Vanity Fair", and many high-profile advertising agencies. He often collaborated with Alfred Stieglitz, publisher of the groundbreaking magazine "Camera Work", and his photographs appeared frequently within its pages. Steichen's 1911 photographs of gowns for the magazine "Art et Décoration" are regarded as the first modern fashion photographs ever published.
