      Abundant Treasures

With Jeffrey Alan Marks leading the way, our buyers spent two days hitting every antiquing hot spot in Santa Barbara looking for treasures like this green glass buoy and vintage wine bottles. “I had so much fun shopping for this sale,” says Marks. “For some reason this shopping trip turned up an abundance of great stuff.”

        Designer Eye

The best part of shopping with a designer has got to be taking advantage of his expertly trained eye. Marks carefully considered and examined every single piece that made the cut during the trip. “There is nothing I picked for this sale that I wouldn’t put in my own home,” says Marks. This charming terracotta tea set passed the test.

          Artisanal Appeal

Going into the trip, Marks knew what he was hunting for. “My goal was to find pieces that felt special and handmade. It’s all about craftsmanship, and nothing in this sale feels mass-produced.” Case in point: this pair of oversize copper lanterns featuring some truly exquisite detailing.

            Separation Anxiety

Naturally, Marks had a hard time parting with a few of the finds he discovered for the sale. “I actually kept half of the splattered dinner plates for myself. I would have kept them all, but I didn’t think I needed 24 dinner plates. But now I regret giving them up and may have to buy them from the sale!”

              Style Upgrade

The paintings were another discovery that Marks was tempted to snag for himself: “I love all of them!” Luckily they all made it into the sale, and some even got a bit of a makeover. This colorful acrylic went from retro castoff to modern masterpiece with a linen mat and a dark wood frame.

                Versatile Pieces

Santa Barbara may elicit visions of tile-roofed haciendas from most people, but Marks was determined to break out of that box. “Although Santa Barbara is associated with Spanish style, the pieces in this sale are not specifically Spanish in style or theme.” This perfectly worn-in leather club chair with Art Deco lines is a prime example. “I picked pieces that would work in any environment.”

                  Why Vintage?

“Vintage is where you find character and charm,” says Marks. “New things almost never have the personality of something that has survived for years.” We couldn’t agree more!
