        Factory-Approved

The Pop artist coined the phrase “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” He didn’t use his 18K gold Cartier Tank Solo to call time on fads, however. As he said in 1973, “I don’t wear a Tank watch to tell the time. In fact, I never wind it. I wear a Tank watch because it’s the watch to wear.”

          Time and Again

Liz didn’t only collect husbands (Richard Burton, her fifth and sixth, pictured left). As you might expect, the jewelry-loving actress had numerous gem-bedecked watches as well. Her 1961 Bulgari Serpenti, a snake-shape bracelet with a diamond-studded head that lifted to reveal a watch face, sold at a Christie’s auction last year for $974,500.

            Clockwork Collector

The actor, who remains best known for his role in Stanley Kubrick’s unforgettable A Clockwork Orange, has collected timepieces since the late 1970s. Steel Rolexes (like the Air King and the Explorer II in our sale) make up much of his collection of more than 60 wristwatches.

              Still Ticking

The seemingly ageless guitarist dubbed “Slowhand” named one of his greatest-hits collections Timepieces, and he has quite a collection of timepieces himself. Earlier this month his Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph with Platinum Case, one of only two made, sold at auction for more than $3.65 million. Among the watches that remain in his collection are numerous Rolexes, including Submariners like those in our sale.

                Timeless Icon

The Cartier Tank that the former First Lady was often photographed wearing was in keeping with her simple, classic aesthetic. She also gave at least one notable watch as a present: a 14K gold self-winding wristwatch with 57 jewels, given to JFK in 1963 by DC socialites Evangeline and David Bruce, that she gifted to her second husband, Aristotle Onassis.
