For more than a decade, Sachin and Babi have been creating gorgeous handwoven textiles and embroidery for designers such as Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta. Ankasa‘s pillows, furnishings, and accessories reiterate that devotion to craftsmanship and meticulous details. “The process of using traditional Indian embroidery techniques to make something with a timeless modernity is very fulfilling,” says Sachin.
The Artisan's Touch
That strong sense of tradition is crucial to their textile designs and largely inspired by their mothers—Sachin’s mom had a sari business, and Babi’s ran a children’s-clothing company. “The tradition is key,” says Babi. “A great sense of artistry and detail goes into every piece,” Sachin adds. The cool stag embroidery on their pillows and totes, for example, takes artisans in India 30 hours altogether to create and sew by hand.
At the couple’s shop in Manhattan’s SoHo district—one of their two shops in the city—craftsmanship, comfort, and luxurious style come together seamlessly. Colorful embroidered pillows are on full display alongside tailored furnishings and accessories that include beautiful hand-dyed tote bags. “We reinterpret elements to fit into the homes of people who appreciate the heritage and detail behind the finished product,” says Babi.
