Antique & Vintage Collectible Pottery

Glazed in Charm

Majolica, the earthenware pottery known for its rich colors and whimsical motifs, was introduced by porcelain manufacturer Minton & Co. at the 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition in London. Thanks to naturalistic motifs (a nod to 16th-century potter Bernard Palissy and 18th-century Rococo designs from Staffordshire and Wedgwood) and hints of humor, majolica was an instant hit. Rediscovered by a new fan base in the 1970s, it has become an eminently collectible ceramic.
