Labor of Love
Functionality is important for Jill, who falls asleep wearing her own pieces, not just because she loves them but also because she wants to see how they feel. “I want them to feel like a second skin,” she says. For ultimate durability, her pieces are threaded with hand-crocheted Tenara, a material originally used for sails and awnings.
Jill’s desk is always filled with at least 20 oversize shells filled with silver pieces. “I started using shells to keep things organized many years ago,” says Jill, who grew up in Maine and Massachusetts and is forever collecting treasures she finds on the beach or in the woods. “I’m inspired by the raw nature, the air, and the feeling I get when I’m in Maine. It’s a part of my DNA.”
