Why We Love This

Hand-colored engraving on paper by Georges Buffon (1707-1788), a French naturalist. Appointed keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden in 1739, he also catalogued the royal natural history collections. The undertaking grew into his comprehensive work, Histoire Naturelle; Generale et Paticuliere, from which this engraving was taken. The book was published between 1749 and 1804 and attempted to account for all known flora and fauna. He published 36 of the proposed 50 volumes before his death.

About Vintage Print Gallery

An antique print is a dazzling way to add a sense of history to your surroundings. And when the print is impeccably framed, you'll be adding elegance to a wall. Vintage Print Gallery's collection is impressive not just in the quality of its offering but also in its breadth, which ranges from 18th-century botanical studies to 19th-century equestrian chromolithographs, to fashion illustrations from the early 20th century.
