Why We Love This

The Mother at Home, or the Principles of Maternal Duty by the Reverend John S. C. Abbott. NY: American Tract Society, 1833. Hardcover, 177 pages, with an engraved frontispiece and eight chapters on maternal duties and 19th-century child-rearing. Age-toning on some pages, and an early owner's signature, otherwise very good in patterned brown cloth on boards and a red leather spine faded to brown on the gilt-stamped spine.

About Barbara Farnsworth

My bookstore, an old wooden building at the edge of a New England trout stream, houses thousands of used, rare and antiquarian books, with particular emphasis on Home and Garden subjects -- food and drink, gardening, interior design and architecture. I also carry titles on fashion, children's books and literature. Books really do furnish a room, beautifully!
