    The Demons by Heimito von Doderer. Translated from German by Richard and Clara Winston. NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1961. 1st Am. Ed. Two volumes, original slipcase. 1,334 pp. Red cloth with illustration, top edges dark blue. The action is squeezed between the autumn of 1926 and the summer of 1927 and the events lead up to the burning of the Ministry of Justice, which Doderer refers to as a “crushing blow for Austrian freedom." Books clean and sound.
