Why We Love This

This introspective portrait of a Japanese geisha was painted by Italian artist Salvatore Merge. Signed and dated 1945 lower left and also signed and titled Donna Giapponese with the original asking price on verso. Merge has succeeded in defining the Japanese use of perspective along with the contrast of the colorful kimono and obi to the background and the floating cartouche. Displayed with simple wood molding frame with a linen liner.
