As described by Christopher de Lotbinière's Rare Books

The Collector by John Fowles. New York: Little Brown, 1963. First printing. A near immaculate copy of Fowles' first novel, a masterpiece of social horror. When a lovely woman is kidnapped by a most determined bank clerk, we are given both sides of the ordeal in alternate voices; a relentless, timeless character study that still chills. Wonderful cover art by Tom Adams. Very slight "newspaper burn" on first end page, otherwise a perfect copy in a clipped jacket.
