As described by Christopher de Lotbinière's Rare Books

Good-bye, Mr. Chips by James Hilton. Boston: Little Brown, 1934. First printing, June 1934. This is an extremely rare, first US edition, preceding the UK one, in perfect condition, minus the jacket. Made popular by two film versions. In 1939, with Robert Donat (who beat out Clark Gable, Henry Fonda, and others for the Best Actor Oscar), and the 1969 remake directed by Herbert Ross with Peter O'Toole, Petula Clark, and Michael Redgrave. Highly collectible and now extremely unusual.
