Why We Love This

Japanese silk brocade maru obi from the Meiji period (circa 1900). Maru obis are the most formal of the obis and were used for weddings. Patterned on both sides with elaborate use of gold threads woven through repeating fan, flowers, gifts and drum designs. It can be used as a table runner or as a wall hanging.

About Tansu Design

Inja Yang travels throughout Asia sourcing antiques for her 25-year-old business,Tansu Design. Her inventory of furniture ranges from Chinese horseshoe armchairs to blanket chests with iron hardware from her native Korea. Accessories are equally esoteric; visitors to her San Francisco showroom might see a colonial Santos head or Japanese saws transformed into sculpture. Tansu Design also creates custom furniture, translating the Asian aesthetic into modern pieces for today's home.
