As described by Christopher de Lotbinière's Rare Books

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Paris: Olympia Press, 1959. 3rd Printing. The novel was first written in English and published in 1955 in Paris, in the infamous Traveller's Companion series, having been rejected in the UK and US. Famous for its innovative style and infamous for its subject, the novel has been adapted to film twice and is now considered a masterpiece. Until Graham Greene happened to choose it as one of his favorite novels for a UK newspaper article in 1956, it was shunned.
