Why We Love This

Pair of silverplate master salts, circa 1850. This pair of salts are early examples of silverplate possibly by Elkington. The shell is supported by mythological dolphin with knotted tails that are perched on rocks. Elkington was a manufacturer from Birmingham, England. They patented the first commercial electroplating process in 1840. The patina makes them appear to have gilded highlights.
