A Certain Smile by Francoise Sagan. NY: E P Dutton, 1956. Stated First Edition. 128 pp. Hardcover with dust jacket. Written in a two-month period. Sagan's second book. The story of a student's love affair with a middle-aged man. Dominique, a bored 20-year-old law student at the Sorbonne in mid-1950s Paris is a young, thin, cynical girl. In 1958 A Certain Smile was made into a film directed by Jean Negulesco and won Best: Costume Design, Music, Original Song and Art Direction.
