As described by
Extremely handsome English oak transitional coffer. The piece is dated circa 1660-1680, known as the Stuart period in England. The deep patina of the oak is beautiful. The coffer features a moulded top with the name P. Stephens carved within. The decorative front is a lovely, carved arcaded frieze and the ends are boarded. The iron escutcheon over the lock is original to the piece. This is a wonderful example of a 17th-century transitional coffer.
