Why We Love This

Landscape oil by Christopher High Shearer. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Shearer attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He was a student under John Raser and Daniel Devlan. By the age of 27 he gained international notoriety for his work travelling extensively to Europe. Awarded in 1878 the Gold Medal by the Dusseldorf School of Fine Art. Founder of the Reading Public Museum. Dated 1911 and signed lower right. Housed in the original gilded frame.
